Police in Watford are appealing for witnesses and information following a robbery at Mecca Bingo in King Street on Monday night (January 31), between 10.15pm and 10.45pm.

The robbery happened after the premises had closed for the night. It is thought that two men had hidden in the premises prior to it closing and then threatened the two remaining members of staff as they were locking up.

The men took a quantity of cash from the safe and then locked the staff members in a cupboard before leaving the building by the rear doors that open onto Granville Road.

Investigating Officer, Detective Sergeant John Hazeldine said: “Fortunately the staff were not hurt, but this was a very frightening incident which has left them very shaken. Although no weapons were actually seen, the staff believe the offenders may have been in possession of a knife. We are appealing to anyone who may have seen the two men leaving the premises or noticed any one in the area of Granville Road and King Street acting suspiciously around the time of the robbery, to contact us a soon as possible.”

Anyone with any information is asked to contact DS John Hazeldine on 01923 472981. Alternately you can contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
