New group to fight incinerator

A new group's been formed to fight plans to build a furnace near Radlett to burn rubbish we throw away that can't be recycled.

Hertfordshire County Council's considering bids from two companies who want to build an incinerator to deal with all of the county's non-recyclable waste.  One of the companies wants to build an incinerator next to Harper Lane in Radlett.

As well as a way of disposing of rubbish, the burning of the waste would also be used to generate electricity, reducing our use on the burning of coal in coal-fired power stations.

The Watling Incinerator Group say they're concerned about possible health risks to people living in the area.  Hertfordshire County Council insist latest technology makes incinerators one of the cleanest ways of producing energy.
