Petition to save Watford station handed in

Supporters of the Watford tube station have handed in a petition to London TravelWatch today - calling to scrap plans to close it.

130 signatures and around 100 on-line signatures have been submitted to the transport watchdog in London today on the last day of the public consultation on the closure.

Travellers, residents and commuters are angry at plans to shut the current "end-of-line" stop of the Metropolitan Line.

It's part of the Croxley Rail Link scheme - which will divert the Met to the south of town and around to Watford Junction - effecting cutting off the existing Watford station into a dead end.

The Link has been formerly approved and the money's been secured by TfL, but commuters say they want Watford station to remain - even if it becomes yet another "Met Line branch".

It's now hoped they'll be a public meeting in June to push again to alter the scheme - which despite going ahead, will allow some services to call at Watford at peak-hours.
