A man's been arrested after a person was found dead following a house fire in Milton Keynes.

Buckinghamshire and Milton Keynes Fire and Rescue Service and Thames Valley Police were called to St Leger Court, Great Linford, just before 8pm on Sunday 19 May 2013.

A person who lived in the property was found dead.

Thames Valley Police said a 58-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of murder and was taken into custody.

Nearby houses were evacuated and a cordon was put in place, which was expected to remain in place through Monday 20 May.

Senior Investigating Officer Gill Wootton said: “We have launched a full inquiry into this incident and are working closely with Buckinghamshire Fire & Rescue Service to establish how the fire started.

“The body remains inside the property and it is likely the examination of the scene will take some time to complete due to the extent of the fire.

“We have arrested a 58-year-old local man on suspicion of murder and he remains in custody at this time for questioning.”

Local Policing Area Commander Supt Barry Halliday said: “This is a serious incident which I recognise will cause concern in the local community.

“Our enquiries are continuing and it is likely there will be police activity in the local area over the next few days.

“I would like to reassure residents that the incident is being fully investigated and anyone with concerns or questions can raise these with local neighbourhood policing officers, who will be carrying out extra patrols of the area.”
