Thames Valley Police has been carrying out extensive enquiries following a fire in Milton Keynes in which a woman died.

The fire broke out within a property in St Leger Court, Great Linford, on Sunday May 19th.

The body of a woman was found within the property prompting a full police investigation.

Senior Investigating Officer Det Ch Insp Gill Wootton said: “A significant number of enquiries have taken place since the fire, including a detailed forensic examination of the scene. We have received a provisional fire investigation report, the results of which will be subject to any additional evidence emanating from our continuing enquiries. While it is not possible to give a definitive cause of the fire at this stage, a deliberate act now seems less likely. A full and final report will be prepared for the coroner once the investigation is complete. As a result of the developments in this case, a 58-year-old man arrested in connection with this incident has been released from his bail. A formal identification procedure has still not been completed, so we are unable at this stage to confirm the identity of the woman. However, we do believe we know her identity and we remain in continued contact with her next of kin. Enquiries will now continue on behalf of the Coroner’s Office and an inquest is likely to be opened in due course.”
