The Wolverton area of Milton Keynes has become home to the UK's first 'pay-as-you-use' electric car scheme.

Members of the E-Car Club can rent a Nissan Leaf for £6.50 an hour.

The Chairman of E-Car, Andrew Wordsworth, told Heart that having the option to rent an electric car by the hour offers families that can't afford to buy a car another option aside from public transport.

The company has two cars available to rent, but drivers are restricted from doing long distances as a fully charged car will only do around 80 miles and charging points in the UK are still limited.

Mr Wordsworth told Heart he's confident people living in Milton Keynes will take up the opportunity to the take part in the pilot:

"As much as anything its the enthusiasm, the sense of community that’s out there were people are looking to collaborate with each other and have something that’s like a shared resource that they can all use."
