Felixstowe: Man Arrested After Armed Police Surround House

A man's been arrested after reports of a hostage being held at gunpoint in Felixstowe.

Police have told Heart they were called just after 7.50pm by a man who reported he was going to shoot himself and that he had a friend round and he wasn't going to let him leave.

Officers, including armed police and the Constabulary helicopter were sent to the scene and the road was cordoned off.

But they found that friend that was supposedly being held was not inside the house and was actually safe and well elsewhere.

The armed police surrounded the home and the 40-year-old came out of the property and was arrested by officers around 8.45pm.

He is being questioned on suspicion of wasting police time and is in custody at Martlesham Police Investigation Centre.
