Great Yarmouth: Death Being Treated As Murder

Police are now treating as murder the death of a man whose body was found in the early hours of yesterday morning (Monday 11 November 2013) in Great Yarmouth.

The man was found by a local resident in the communal stairwell of a multi occupancy property in Wellesley Road at around 7:30am.

The man has been identified as a 38 year old foreign national, who had recently been living in the town.   A post mortem examination is underway and his identity is unlikely to be confirmed before tomorrow at the earliest. Family liaison officers are currently supporting the family.

This morning, as a result of police enquiries, a man in his late 30s from the Peterborough area was arrested on suspicion of murder.  He is currently in Wymondham Police Investigation Centre awaiting questioning.

Detective Inspector Andy Guy, lead investigating officer from the Joint Norfolk and Suffolk Major Investigation Team, said: "This is a very fast moving investigation and we are pursuing a number of lines of enquiry.  In particular we are working to narrow down the victim's movements in the period leading up to his death.  The man appeared to have suffered multiple injuries although we await the results of forensic medical examinations to confirm the cause of his death."

A seal remains on the property and forensic examination continues with officers carrying out house to house inquiries in the area.
