A Great Yarmouth man has been jailed for 16 years after pleading guilty to sexual offences against two young girls.

55-year-old John Williams from George Street pleaded guilty to serious sexually assaults and taking an indecent picture of a child.

He also admitted 3 counts of having indecent images of children.

He will be on the sex offender's register for life.

Det Con Nikki Clarke of Norfolk Constabulary who lead the investigation, said: "Williams committed these terrible offences against two vulnerable young girls who until recently had been too scared to come forward and we would like to commend them for the bravery they have shown.

"By pleading not guilty, until he changed his plea on the first day of trial, Williams forced the victims to believe they would have to relive the ordeal in court, this has proven an immensely stressful experience.

"It has taken an enormous amount of courage on their part, and we hope such a sentence will give them a sense of closure, and that they can now move on positively with their lives."
