Lowestoft: Homes Without Power

Heart's being told more than 600 people in Lowestoft are still without electricity after power problems this morning.

UK Power Networks say engineers are working as quickly as safely possible to restore power supplies to 653 customers in the London Road North, Denmark Road area of Lowestoft.

It's after an underground cable fault at 7.57am this morning.

Originally 790 customers were affected but the company say they were able to restore power to 137 customers at 9.26am.

The Britten Centre multi-storey car park has also been closed to new customers because of the power outages.

Waveney District Council say it will be manned to allow anyone parked there to leave, however due to ongoing technical problems no more cars will be allowed in until further notice.

The Marina Customer Service Centre is now fully operational after closing earlier.

UK Power Networks say they appreciate how difficult it is to be without electricity and apologise to all those affected.

They added: Usually we are able to restore supplies quickly through feeding electricity from an alternative source but this unusual occurrence of two unrelated faults close together has prevented that.

Both faults have been located and are being worked on.

Mobile generators are on site.

We anticipate being able to restore supplies either through completing repair on the faults or through mobile generation in the early evening.

We appreciate how difficult it is to be without electricity and apologise to all those affected."
