Minister Hears About Rail Campaign

The Rail Minister Theresa Villers has been meeting people in Norfolk and Suffolk campaigning for a better rail service between the east and London.

She had been invited up by MPs in Norfolk and Suffolk who have been working together to promote the need for big changes to the line.

The main target is to reduce the journey time from Norwich to 90 minutes and to 60 minutes from Ipswich. 

She has been meeting with MPs like Chloe Smith, Ben Gummer and Simon Wright, as well as local authorities and campaigning groups.

The minister told Heart: 'They've got really strong veiws about the need to improve transport links up to Norwich, Ipswitch and the surrounding area and I'm here to find out directly from them the detail about what they want'.

Ipswich MP Ben Gummer told Heart: 'We're working as a united front, all the MPs together, to try and get the capacity and speed improvements that we need.'

Norwich North MP Chloe Smith told Heart: 'What we want is an improvement right up and down the line and there are benefits that can be brought for all the areas by getting this right for the longterm.'
