Norfolk: Man Jailed For Sexual Abuse

A man from Eaton in Norfolk's been jailed for 13 years after he sexually abused a woman with severe learning difficulties.

A 62-year-old Norwich man who sexually abused a vulnerable woman has been jailed for 13 years at Norwich Crown Court.

Peter Howard of Buckingham Road in Eaton was convicted of 12 counts of sexual activity with a mentally disordered female by a jury who reached a unanimous verdict. He was cleared of one count.

The court heard how between February 2008 and April 2011 Howard repeatedly sexually abused his victim who suffered with severe learning difficulties.

Detective Sergeant Lee Diggins, from the Adult Abuse Investigation Unit, said: "Howard preyed on the vulnerability of his victim and showed complete disregard for her welfare.

"The length of this prison sentence reflects the serious nature of these offences and demonstrates that the police and courts will not tolerate this behaviour."

Howard was placed on the Sex Offenders Register for life and told he would never be able to work with children.

Det Sgt Diggins added: "If a victim or witness of abuse contacts us and wishes to discuss their situation, we will always endeavour to conduct a thorough investigation, where possible, and to bring to justice those who abuse and mistreat vulnerable people who have the right to be protected."
