Two men have been jailed for their part in a violent assault at a leisure venue in Norwich which left a man with serious facial injuries.
Daniel Francis, 20, of Earlham Green Lane, and Darren Prescod, 19, of Mile Cross Road, appeared at Norwich Crown Court earlier for sentencing in relation to the incident at the city’s Funky Monkey’s on Burton Road last March.
Francis, who was found guilty of assault causing grievous bodily harm (GBH) and affray following a week-long trial in February, was sentenced to 24 months in a Young Offenders’ Institute (YOI) for the GBH and 18 months for affray, to run concurrently.
Prescod pleaded guilty to affray at an earlier hearing and was given 14 months in a YOI.
The assault took place at the indoor skate park on Saturday 30 March 2013, when the 20 year old victim was set upon after intervening in an argument. He sustained serious facial injuries that required hospital treatment.
Detective Sgt Sarah Knights from Norwich CID said: "This was a vicious assault in a public venue which left the victim with serious injuries and must have been frightening for other people to witness. We’re satisfied with today’s outcome and the custodial sentences reflect both the severity of the offence and the seriousness with which violent crime such as this is viewed.”
