Police in Daventry are appealing for witnesses to an arson that took place in Eden Close in the town in the early hours of Saturday 5th January.

It is believed the fire was started when someone put something lit through the letterbox of the property sometime between 3.30am and 4am and officers would like to speak to anyone who may have seen anyone acting suspiciously in the area at the time.

The fire caused severe damage to the front door and smoke damage to the property.

Two people were inside the property at the time of the fire but were rescued by the Fire and Rescue Service. Both suffered from smoke inhalation but neither sustained injuries in the incident.

Officers are particularly interested in speaking to someone who was walking their dog in the area at the time and who may have witnessed any suspicious activity.
