Police are appealing for witnesses to come forward after a 20 year old man suffered fractures to each side of his jaw during a violent assault at the X Fest, which was held at Santa Pod Raceway over bank holiday weekend.

The assault happened sometime between midnight and 1am on Monday May 6 as the victim was in the bar area of the event. He was approached by his attacker - a white man, in his late 20s or early 30s, around five feet ten inches tall and with short dark hair - and punched in the face. The attacker then fled the bar area.

The victim was taken to Addenbrookes Hospital for treatment to his injuries and has undergone an operation to fit metal plates into his jaw.

Detective Constable Claire Case, who is investigating the incident, is keen to hear from anyone who was at the X Festival over the bank holiday weekend and may have seen the assault taking place.

DC Case said: "This was a seemingly unprovoked attack which has left the victim with some very nasty injuries and it is important that we find the offender as quickly as possible. A number of witnesses have said that the offender had been causing problems for stall holders at the event earlier in the day and I'd like to hear from anyone who may be able to help us with our inquiries."
