A man has died in hospital after being involved in a fight with a woman in Northampton.
The 53-year-old man and the woman were seen in East Park Parade, Northampton yesterday/Tuesday evening at five to six. It is thought the man may have been trying to stop her walking into the road.
Police were called and when they arrived they arrested the 47-year-old woman, who was acting in an aggressive manner.
As they were arresting the woman, the man collapsed.
Officers conducted first aid and the man was taken to Northampton General Hospital for treatment. He died later in the evening. The cause of his death is being investigated.
Detective Chief Inspector Steve Lingley, said: "We were called to a report of a man and a woman fighting in the street. However, we are now investigating the possibility that the man was trying to prevent the woman from walking in the road. Officers arrived at the incident within five minutes of receiving the call and were in the process of arresting the woman when the man collapsed. After conducting first aid, he was taken to Northampton General Hospital for treatment but sadly died. The woman was also taken to Northampton General Hospital, however, she was later taken into custody at the Criminal Justice Centre."
Northants police are appealing for witnesses.
DCI Lingley said: "It is vitally important that we establish the full facts of what happened during this incident and we would like to speak to anyone who may have witnessed this incident, or who may have seen the woman in the road prior to it."
