A 32 year old man has been sentenced to life in prison for abducting and raping a 10 year old child.
Jason Watts from Hampton Street in Northampton will serve a minimum of seven years and two months behind bars.
He was arrested on August 29th 2013 and pleaded guilty to the offence.
His Honour Judge Fowler told the court:
“The offences of kidnap and rape are horrific in themselves and to commit them on a child of 10 demonstrates inconceivable evil.”
Detective Inspector Ally White said:
"The sentencing reflects the horrific and abhorrent nature of this extremely unusual crime. I would like to thank everyone who assisted in the search which resulted in the child being found quickly.
"Had this not happened, the potential outcome does not bear thinking about. My thoughts are with the child and family who now need to piece together their lives."
The mother of the child said:
"I hope that Watts is never given the chance to do this to another child. I am pleased that the police got my child back to me and thankful for their support. I'm also very grateful that the community pulled together to help in the search. We are utterly devastated and are now trying to rebuild our lives."
