Morris Dancing Olympia to the Olympics

A man from Brackley in Northamptonshire is Morris Dancing from the home of the Olympics - Olympia in Greece - to the London 2012 Games.

Morris Dancer Tom ClareIn his Top Hat and bells and waving his hankerchiefs in the air, Tom Clare and contemporary dancer Dana Macpherson, are dancing from Olympia in Greece to the Olympic Park in London - so far they've reached Italy.

The dance relay from Ancient Olympia to the modern Olympics in London is a 2000 mile challenge following an alignment of ancient and sacred sites known as the Apollo axis. With a mixture of traditional and improvised Dances, Tom and Dana are taking it in turns to dance every step of the way. They've invites dancers/musicians or interested travellers to join them as they  embark on their epic journey.

Even though there's more than 1200 miles left to go, Tom told Heart, he's feeling positive: "I was a bit nervous to begin with at first but everything seems to be working out. The legs are holding out, the sun is shining and it's amazing that after thinking about it all winter to actually being out here on the road!"

Tom says they've had quite a reaction from people they have passed along the way: "It's been absolutely great - in Greece everyone's been beeping, waving and cheering. Now we've made our way into Italy, as we've got north, everyone's been cheering us on and making us smile - it's really spurred us on."
