Police say the 26 year old local man was stabbed in the face and stomach after an incident in Abington.
It happened near Collingwood Road around 8pm on Sunday after what's being described as an "incident."
The victim, a local man, is now in a serious condition in intensive care at Northampton General Hospital.
Collingwood Road itself was closed for several hours on the stretch between Cedar Road and Abington Avenue as forensic teams carried out an investigation.
It's thought the attack was carried out by a man who may have driven away in a dark-coloured sports car.
Police say any witnesses can call them on 03000 111 222 - alternatively, information can be given anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
