An official document has been handed over in Northampton today confirming the official start of the Election process.

With Parliament now dissolved ahead of the forthcoming Election, official notices from the Queen are delivered to the various constituencies.

Today [Tues] it was handed over to officials at the Guildhall - albeit an hour behind schedule.

It marks the official notification of the election process, even though many candidates have been on the campaign trail for days, if not weeks already.  The LibDem leader Nick Clegg has already been in town along with a Labour minister and a shadow minister for the Conservatives.

More than 154,000 people have so far registered to vote in the borough of Northampton which is already on last year's total of about 4,000.

The deadline to register to vote is Tuesday April 20th.  That is also the deadline to register for a postal vote.
