Around 200 soldiers from the 9/12th Lancers paraded in Northampton to mark their safe return home from Afghanistan.

People lined the streets to applaud the soldiers as they marched to the sound of The Light Cavalry Band.

Colin White is the Regimental Sergeant Major of the 9th 12th lancers. He told Heart why they parade like this:

"When we come back from an operational tour like Afghanistan we try and let the public know that we appreciate their support and its our way of saying thank you"

People watching the march were giving donations and offering kind messages of support, one woman said:

"You are all hero’s"

All the service men get the opportunity to parade in their home county so this march in Northampton is just one of many they will be doing in the coming weeks.

Corporal Darren Edwards is one of the servicemen from Northampton he returned from service about two months ago. He said that he was happy to be home and back with his family after spending 6 months Helmand.
