An 18 year old man's been left seriously injured after a car crossed all three lanes of the M1 near Northampton and crashed into railings.
The crash close to Junction 16 at 3.20pm on Thursday 30 January 2014 led to the southbound carriageway being closed for four hours.
Drivers also faced long delays on the northbound M1 as drivers slowed down to look at what had happened on the opposite carriageway.
Police say "a blue Vauxhall Astra was travelling in lane three when, for reasons unknown, it crossed into the nearside and collided with bridge railings."
The driver, aged 25, was taken to Northampton General Hospital with a head injury. The passenger, aged 18, was taken to University Hospital in Coventry with serious injuries.
Northamptonshire Police have asked people who saw the crash to get in touch with them through the Drivewatch Hotline on 0800 174615 or the non-emergency number 101.
