£2.9m resurfacing work starts in the Wallasey Tunnel

Merseytravel say that the major work will be carried out over the next four months and will include resurfacing of the tunnel, the Wallasey toll booth approach areas and the Liverpool approach and exit roads.

They're promising that the road inside the tunnel will be smoother, but will also last longer.

Large Goods vehicles will be prohibited from travelling through the Kingsway Tunnel overnight on a number of dates.

From the 5 - 8 February this will be from Wallasey to Liverpool between 19.30pm and 06.30am.

The Queensway Tunnel will remain fully open throughout the week but drivers should note that the 3.5 tonnes weight restriction remains in force. Drivers of HGV vehicles are advised to check Merseytravel’s website www.merseytravel.gov.uk for updates throughout the programme of works.

To allow resurfacing work to take place the Kingsway will be partially closed during four weekends in February and March, but as only one tube will be closed at a time there should be minimal disruption to tunnel users.
