Would you share your car?

160 people sign up to a new scheme set up to get people car-sharing.

160 people have already signed up to an online car sharing scheme available to anyone travelling in or through Oxfordshire launched by Oxfordshire County Council.

Anyone can sign up for free at www.oxfordshirecarshare.com to link up with others making the same journey.

The scheme  allows users to set parameters about the kind of person they wish to share with, such as specifying a particular age group or gender.

Katie Parnell of Oxfordshire County Council's Travel Plans team is co-ordinating the Oxfordshire Car Share scheme.
She said:

"Lift-sharing is a great way of reducing car use and halving petrol costs by making use of empty seats in the car.

"The scheme is completely free - just get on the website and fill out a simple form online. Once you are a member, you will be free to register your journey and search for matches."

Oxfordshire County Council's Cabinet Member for Transport Rodney Rose added:

"Car sharing is a win-win situation. It allows individuals to benefit from the convenience of the car, while cutting car use on our busy roads."

What do you think about this? Would you be happy to give a lift to a stranger?
