A man who sexually assaulted a woman as she walked along a cycle path in Peterborough has been jailed.

22 year old Artur Piotr Kleibor [pictured - right] from Brookfurlong in Peterborough attacked the woman almost two years ago.

She was walking along a path in the Westwood area of Peterborough at around 3:20am on the 19th May 2009.

The victim fell unconscious after being pushed to the ground and throttled.

Kleibor was not, however, arrested until September last year.

He was arrested for drink-driving, but DNA evidence immediately linked him to the sexual assault in 2009.

He admitted the attack at Peterborough Crown Court in December, and has today been jailed for eight years.

Detective Inspector Simon Harding, who led the investigation, said: "This attack must have been a horrifying ordeal for the victim and our thoughts are with her and her family.

We hope the conclusion of this case will give her some sense of closure, knowing that justice has been done."

Kleibor has also been placed on the Sex Offenders Register for life.
