Peterborough: 410 Royal Mail Jobs

19 September 2013, 06:00

410 temporary Christmas jobs are to be created by Royal Mail in Peterborough.

A temporary parcel sorting centre is being opened in Shrewsbury Avenue in November, to sort parcels in the run-up to Christmas.

The facility is one of ten being opened across the country by Royal Mail, as it approaches its busiest time of the year.

Staff at the centre will sort the increased number of parcels sent around the UK during Christmas.

Mark Higson, Royal Mail’s Managing Director of Operations and Modernisation, said: "Christmas is the busiest time of year for Royal Mail and our customers.

Royal Mail has invested in ten temporary parcel sort centres to increase our scale and improve our flexibility during this important time of year for our customers.

The use of additional parcel sort centres has proved extremely successful the past two years.

They are now an integral part of Royal Mail’s substantial financial commitment in additional resources at Christmas operation to handle the festive mail bag as effectively as possible."

Royal Mail has set up a dedicated website for people to apply for the positions.
