The leader of Peterborough City Council has told Heart he expects the city to 'keep growing' following the latest census results.
The statistics show Peterborough is the fastest growing town or city on the whole of the East of England.
The census revealed Peterborough now has a population of approximately 183 thousand people.
That represents a 17% increase in population over the last ten years.
Peterborough City Council Leader Marco Cereste said: "I'm not at all surprised.
I wouldn't have been surprised if the numbers had been even higher.
It's a great city, a wonderful place to live and employment is still reasonably good.
Lots of people from lots of different countries want to come and live here and have already got friends here.
I'm sure this trend will continue.
It's only a question of time before the economy turns and I don't think the growth will slow down, I think it will increase, and we need to be planning for that."
