A man from Peterborough who sexually assaulted a 10 year old girl has been jailed.
56 year old John Sands, from Oakdale Avenue, indecently assaulted the girl more than a decade ago. He was arrested last year after the victim came forward to police. He denied three charges of indecent assault but was convicted following a trial at Peterborough Crown Court and jailed for three years today (Monday 19/11/12).
Detective Constable Fiona Bagshaw, who led the investigation, said:
"The victim in this case showed great courage in coming forward and going to court to give evidence during the trial.
"Sands must have thought he had got away with the abuse after such a long time, but this case shows we thoroughly investigate all cases of historical sexual abuse."
