Peterborough No Drink Zones

21 September 2010, 06:00

People caught drinking alcohol in public in parts of Peterborough could be fined and arrested in future.

It's hoped, if introduced, the new measures will cut down on crime and anti-social behaviour in the areas.

The proposals to introduce designated public place orders would mean people caught drinking where they're not supposed to could be fined £500 and even arrested if they refuse to hand over drink to a police officer.

The proposed areas for the introduction of the new orders are:

  • Part of Millfield and New England
  • Part of Dogsthorpe
  • Eastfield Road
  • Pyramid Centre, Bretton
  • Holywell Lakes, Longthorpe
  • Church Drive shops, Orton Longueville

People living in the above areas will be getting leaflets from Peterborough City Council explaining the plans.

Residents now have until the 20th October to comment on the proposals.
