Police Raid Scrap Yards

Police investigating the trade in stolen metals have raided 2 scrap yards in the Wisbech area simultaneously this morning.

Over 100 officers from the Cambridgeshire, Norfolk and Suffolk forces as well as dog teams went to 3 locations just after 7am.

Their main task will now be to work with people like EDF Energy, BT, HM Revenue and Customs and the local council to see if any stolen cabling or other property can be found.

It's after a rise in the number of things like power and telecoms cabling being stolen as well as lead from church roofs.

Detectives spent 18 months gathering intelligence and planning the operation which they hope will seriously disrupt the market in stolen metals across the area.

2 men and a woman have been arrested.
