Yaxley: Mother Charged Over Girl's Death

6 January 2014, 15:41

The mother of a two-year-old girl from Yaxley, who died after being taken to hospital, has been remanded in custody after being charged over her death.

Toddler Amina Agboola died in November after arriving at Peterborough City Hospital with serious injuries.

Cambridgeshire Police said Sarah Raqueman, 28, of Scott Drive, Yaxley, Cambridgeshire, had been charged with causing or allowing her death and two counts of neglect against two other children.

She appeared at Peterborough Magistrates' Court today and was remanded in custody to appear before Cambridge Crown Court on January 14.

Raqueman's boyfriend Dean Harris, 19, of Scott Drive, Yaxley, was charged with murder soon after Amina's death.

He is due to appear in court next month.

The couple were arrested after taking the girl to hospital themselves.

A post-mortem examination found she died from a blunt force injury which ruptured her liver.

Speaking soon after Amina's death, her father Reuben Agboola said: "I want to thank everyone for the continuing love, prayer and support for my little princess.

I am extremely grateful and proud to have her as my child, I believe she is now at a better place.''
