Mum of the Year and Overall Winner

Mum's, how special are they, but do you think a Mum you know is extra special?

This award category celebrates mums that have gone beyond expectations to help their children and others.

The winner of both Mum of the year and overall Pride of Plymouth 2010 Award

Julia Williams

This is what was said about her: "Julia, an extraordinary foster mom, who profoundly benefits 5 to 10 young children with neurologically challenges each year in her care from abusive, drugs and or alcohol dependent homes.

Independent of her job as a foster parent, Julia take the kids to a chiropractor for weekly care to facilitate functional restoration in their bodies the natural way with positive results.

Thanks to Julia’s loving initiative, these children will grow up to be normal human beings with such equal potential."

Our other amazing Mums in the finals were ...

Joanne Kelsey Brown

This is what was said about her: "My mum has raised 2 girls on her own and is now raising a baby, she manages to pay bills and sort problems out. When I had cancer my mum put up with my tantrums and still helped me survive each day, even those moments when i would lay in bed and think I'm going to die she said "No, you won't"

I love you Mum."

Lisa Kartanou

This is what was said about her: "She juggles a university degree, looking after the house, her own children and many foster children, she also supports the refugee centre encouraging people to donate, works closely with the Plymouth Environment Centre and runs a knitting group and a book club.

In this climate, people need distractions from everyday life and all the help they can get. All the things that she does need appreciating. She is part of what makes Plymouth a diverse, exciting and friendly place to live in."
