Friends of a teenager from Plymouth missing since he jumped from a ferry on New Year's Eve have begun their own searches for him.

Close friends of Jordan Cobb used social network sites to bring teenagers together to help look for the 16-year-old.

A group of about 20 met at the Plymouth side of the Tamar Bridge before crossing over the river to Saltash in Cornwall.

Jordan has not been seen since he jumped from the Torpoint Ferry into the River Tamar as he headed to a new year street party in Torpoint with a group of friends.

The search for a 16-year-old boy who jumped into a river from a ferry has been called off by coastguards.

Earlier, the Maritime and Coastguard Agency said the search had now been stood down, tweeting: "Despite an extensive search he wasn't found."

But the police, family and friends of Jordan Cobb continue to search the river bank to see if there are any signs of the missing teenager.

Brixham Coastguard was first alerted after receiving a Mayday distress call from the Torpoint ferry at 9.15pm on New Year's Eve reporting a man overboard near the ferry's slipway in Torpoint, Cornwall.

A major search resumed on the morning of New Year's Day and police said there was a chance he had managed to swim ashore.

Fletcher Medlen wrote on Facebook: "Jordan you mean the world to me your my best friend and you always will be."
