Around seventy-five firefighters have been tackling a blaze at an industrial site, with a large number of tyres in flames.

Crews went to the scene in the Meadowside Street area of Renfrew at around 10pm after receiving a number of 999 calls from members of the public.

They were faced with a "severe fire'' at an industrial recycling site, the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service said.

Huge plumes of smoke could be seen filling the skyline from the fire on the banks of the River Clyde.

A spokesman for the service said: "Firefighters are currently tackling the blaze using a number of main water jets, including one from a specialist height vehicle.''

Police were also attending but there were no reports of any injuries.
