Two men have appeared in court charged with attempted murder after a Chinese takeaway owner was seriously assaulted.

The 37-year-old victim, named locally as father-of-three Jie Yu, suffered multiple injuries in the attack in West Pilton Park, Edinburgh, on the evening of Wednesday October 1.

He is in a serious but stable condition in hospital.

James Hogg, 24, and Kieran Hutcheon, 19, appeared on petition at Edinburgh Sheriff Court.

Both men were charged with attempted murder and theft of a car when they appeared in private. They made no plea or declaration and were remanded in custody.

The pair, both from the Edinburgh area, are expected back in court next week.

On Monday, 18-year-old Gary Reid was charged with attempted murder and theft of a car when he appeared before the same court in connection with the case.
