Taunton: Two Sex Assaults
23 July 2014, 19:02 | Updated: 23 July 2014, 19:16
Police investigating reports of two women being sexually assaulted by a black man in Taunton say they believe the same offender is behind the attacks.
Officers say they took place on Friday, July 18th, between 9 and 9.40pm on Hoveland Lane and Wellington Road.
They say that each time, the man started talking to the women before sexually assaulting them.
Police say they would like to speak to anyone who saw a man acting suspiciously in the area that evening, and are also calling for a cyclist, who might have seen one of the incidents, to get in touch.
The offender is described as a black man, in his 20s, and was wearing a white top and flip-flops and carrying a man bag.
DC Simon Dawkins said:
"The assaults have left the victims shaken and we're determined to do all we can to identify the offender.
"This is usually a very safe area and so these two assaults are unusual for this location. We believe this is an isolated incident and I don't want people to feel unduly concerned if they live in the area.
"However, I would ask local residents to cast their minds back, ask themselves what they were doing and think about whether anyone matching this desctiption, or acting suspiciously, was around."
Anyone with information about the offences should contact Taunton CID on 101.
