Arson Attack On Southampton Family Home

Police in Southampton are appealing for witnesses after a family of awoke in the early hours of the morning to find someone had tried to set fire to their house.

A teenage boy living in the house awoke and discovered the fire and started putting it out with water. As he opened the front door it set the smoke alarm off waking the other residents. When the boy opened the front door he discovered aplastic crate had been pushed up against their front door in Grove Road and the contents of it set on fire.

The resulting fire was small and only damaged the door before it was put out but at this stage it’s believed that someone one was trying to set fire to the house and endanger those inside.

It happened at around 4.30am on Wednesday, February 8. 
 
Police are appealing for any witnesses to the incident which happened in the Shirley area of the city. Officers would like to hear from anyone who was in the area at the time and who may have seen anything suspicious.

They are especially interested in hearing from anyone who has lost a grey and red packing crate with the words ‘Teacrate PLC, Crate Rental Co’ written on the side, The crate contained curtains, newspapers and a duvet cover.
