Couple Charged Over Abandoned Baby

Thames Valley Police have charged two people as part of an investigation into a baby girl being abandoned in Reading.

A 26-year-old man and an 18-year-old woman, both from Winchester, have both been charged with abandoning a child.

They appeared at Reading Magistrates Court on Friday 11th May.

A note written in Polish was left with the baby who was dumped opposite the Polish Centre in London Road, Reading, on May 3, Thames Valley Police said.

The infant, believed to be between two and three weeks old, remains in foster care after she was taken to the Royal Berkshire Hospital.

Officers said the baby was found at 8.59pm and they believe she may have been left on the doorstep about an hour and a half earlier.

Superintendent Stuart Greenfield, from Thames Valley Police, said the baby appeared unharmed, with no immediate evidence of any injuries or trauma.
