Cyclist Critical After Van Collision

A woman's in a critical condition in hospital, after being knocked off her bicycle by a van near Southampton city centre.

The 28-year-old woman from Southampton collided with a Mercedes sprinter at around 9.04am on Tuesday April 24th at the entrance to the City Commerce Centre in Marsh Lane.

She suffered multiple injuries and was taken to Southampton General Hospital where she remains in a critical condition.

The air ambulance was called to the scene and landed nearby but was not required to transport her.  The van driver, a 23-year-old from Southampton, wasn't hurt.

The road was partially re-opened by about 10.30am and the whole scene lifted by 12.45pm once police had completed their investigation and recovery.

Police want to hear from anyone who witnessed the collision or saw either vehicle prior to it.
