Severe Gales Hit South Coast

You're being advised to check before you travel due to strong winds and heavy rain.

The Met Office has issued a weather warning for strong winds for today (Friday 8th June) and tonight, with gusts up to 40-50mph.

A gust of 79mph was recorded at the Needles on the Isle of Wight this morning.

Dorset Police say they've dealt with more than 50 reports of fallen trees.

Red Funnel's car ferry service is running but might meet delays.

Meanwhile, The Highways Agency, which operates and maintains motorways and some major A roads in England, is working closely with the Met Office to monitor weather conditions and maintain safe roads and reliable journeys.

Drivers are advised to plan their journeys before they set out, checking the forecast and traffic conditions, to leave extra time for their journeys if travel conditions are poor, and to delay their journey if the weather becomes severe.
