Fire at Portsmouth Construction Site

Firefighters in Portsmouth have tackled a fire in St Mary's Road, Kingston, Portsmouth.

Control room operators received a 999 emergency call at 15:09 to reports of a fire at a construction site in the city.
Crews from Southsea, Cosham, Portchester and Havant attended the incident.

The fire was affecting a single storey building site measuring 35 x 25 metres.

Using Southsea's aerial ladder platform, firefighters were able to tackle the fire from above and quickly prevented it from spreading to neighbouring properties.

The stop message was received at 17:27 stating that 6 breathing apparatus were used as well as two jets.

In total six crews were in attendance from Havant, Portchester, Cosham and Southsea as well as Havant's Multi role vehicle, Southsea's Aerial Ladder Platform and Cosham's Special Equipment Unit.

The cause of the fire is not yet known but a full investigation will be carried out by the police and Fire Service's Arson Task Force.
