Police are appealing for witness after a 9-year-old girl was approached by two men who got out of a van in Southampton.
She was walking along Cuckmere Lane in the Millbrook area with two friends between 5.20pm and 5.30pm on Saturday 12 October. She stopped to tie up her shoe laces and her friends carried on walking.
Two men in a white Transit style van then stopped alongside her. They got out of the van and approached the girl.
Police are trying to establish exactly what happened and what was said.
The girl was frightened and concerned by the incident and ran away to be reunited with her friends. Specially trained officers have been speaking to the girl alongside her family and police are currently carrying out enquiries in the area.
Detective Sergeant Gavin Jordan from Shirley CID said:
"We treat all reports of this nature seriously and would ask anyone with information to contact police.
"Did you witness a young girl speaking to two men on Cuckmere Lane or did you see a white van in the area at the time of this incident?"
Anyone with information is asked to contact Det Sgt Jordan at Shirley CID quoting Operation Landscape on 101 or the anonymous Crimestoppers charity on 0800 555 111.
