Man Arrested Over Racial Attack
Police investigating a racially aggravated, unprovoked assault on a student earlier this week in Old Portsmouth have arrested a man.
The 21-year-old Portsmouth man was arrested on suspicion of racially aggravated assault and criminal damage earlier today and remains in custody.
Investigations to trace other suspects wanted in connection with this incident are ongoing and police are continuing their appeal for information.
Around 6.10pm Tuesday, March 16, the 24-year-old victim was walking along St George’s Road when he was approached by three white youths. He suffered verbal abuse and was physically assaulted.
The student managed to get to the safety of his car and alert police at a nearby shop on the High Street.
While in the shop, someone smashed the driver side window of his car before running off.
Police are still keen to hear from two women who were jogging in the area at the time and told the student they saw what happened.
