Police in Southampton, investigating an arson, have arrested a 40-year-old man from the cit on suspicion of arson with intent to endanger life.
It's after the front door of a house in Jessamine Road, Coxford, was set alight at around 2.15am Wednesday, September 5.
A 50-year-old woman, 28-year-old man, a 19-year-old woman and a young baby were in the house at the time. They all escaped safely, and no one was hurt.
The man, the younger woman and child were taken to Southampton General Hospital as a precaution to be checked for smoke inhalation.
Hampshire Fire and Rescue were also called to the scene, but a police officer who arrived first managed to put out the fire with a car fire extinguisher. A neighbour also helped by throwing buckets of water at the fire.
Detective Inspector Kerry Loveless said: "We are treating this fire as arson with intent to endanger life. Fortunately no one was hurt, and the investigation is ongoing. I'm appealing for anyone with information about what happened or who witnessed the incident or saw anyone acting suspiciously in the area around 2.15 am today (5th September) to contact the Western Area CID team on 101 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111."
