Man Charged Over Cigarette Smuggling In Southampton

A man's appeared in court after 630 thousand cigarettes were seized at Southamption docks.

33 year old Krystian Konieczny, of no fixed address is charged with evading around £175,000 in excise duty, following an undercover HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) operation in Dorset on Thursday afternoon (9th January).

The cigarettes were seized by Border Force officers at Southampton Container Port in early January.

Konieczny has been charged and remanded in custody until 17 January 2014. Another man also arresested has been released on bail until 11 February 2014.
