27 February 2014, 15:26
A man, jailed over the death of teenage moped rider Jade Clark at Ringwood, has lost an appeal against the length of his prison sentence.
58-year-old Brian Hampton from Kent was jailed for six years in September 2013.
He was found guilty at Bournemouth Crown Court of perverting the course of justice after his car collided with a moped causing the death of 16-year-old Jade.
Hampton, a disqualified driver, admitted driving without insurance at the time of the collision and causing death by careless driving but denied perverting the course of public justice.
16-year-old Jade died after a crash involving a Volvo XC90 as she rode her moped along the A31 near Ashley Heath, ten miles north of Bournemouth, at 8.23pm on Sunday 24 February 2013.
At the time of the sentencing, Jade’s mother Sharon said:
“Jade was a wonderful daughter and a loving sister to Corrina, William, Rachael, Danni and Tommy.
“She was studying at college to become a hairdresser and was a very active member of the Young Firefighters Association in Ringwood, where she really enjoyed spending her time.
“Jade was a lovely young lady with a large group of friends – words cannot describe how much we all miss her."
