A man's been charged with attempted murder after a woman was attacked in Portsmouth.
Police were called to Stubbington Avenue last Friday night.
A 40-year-old woman was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries but is now said to be stable.
A Hampshire Constabulary spokesman said:
"We can confirm detectives from the Hampshire Major Investigation Team (HMIT) charged a man on Tuesday 31 December 31 2013 with attempted murder after a 40-year-old woman was assaulted in Portsmouth.
"Police were called to Stubbington Avenue in Portsmouth shortly after 11pm on Friday 27 December 2013. A man was arrested in the Merton Road area of Southsea later that night.
"Adam Paul Buxton, aged 32, of Stubbington Avenue, Portsmouth, was charged with one count of attempted murder.
"He appeared before Portsmouth Magistrates Court on Wednesday 1 January 2014 when he was remanded in custody to appear before Portsmouth Crown Court on Wednesday 8 January 2014.
"The 40-year-old victim was taken to hospital to receive treatment for life-threatening injuries. She is described as being in a stable condition."
