A man, arrested over a serious sex attack on a 19-year-old man in Southampton, has been bailed.
He was seriously sexually assaulted in the church yard area of St Mary’s Church, off St Mary’s Street at about 3.15am on Saturday (15 March). It is thought that the same victim was robbed just minutes earlier, after getting cash out at the cashpoint at Tesco in St Mary's Street.
A 42-year-old man from Southampton arrested on suspicion of one count of rape and one count of robbery in connection with this investigation has been bailed until 14 May, pending further enquiries.
Detectives are still asking for witnesses to come forward. Anyone with any information is asked to contact Det Insp Edbury at Southampton Central Police Station on 101, or call the charity Crimestoppers line on 0800 555 111, where information can be left anonymously.
