Man Sprayed In Face In Attempted Robbery
Police are appealing for information following an attempted robbery in Osborne Road, Southsea between 12.45 and 12.55 on Wednesday, May 9.
A 51-year-old man was walking along the south pavement near Barclays Bank when he was approached by a man from behind who sprayed a noxious substance in his face before trying to steal the man’s rucksack.
The man fought back and managed to keep hold of his bag.
Following the incident the offender ran off, joined a second waiting man and got into a vehicle in Portland Road and made off.
The man experienced a burning sensation when he was sprayed in the face but was left with no injuries following the incident.
The first man is described as white, in his late 210s or early 30s, around 5ft 7ins tall, slim build, brown hair, wearing dark clothing and jeans.
The second man is described as white, stocky build, 6ft 3ins tall, approximately 30 years of age.
Det Con Fiona Wright said: “This is an isolated attempted robbery. It was a busy lunchtime in Osborne Road. There were passers by who assisted the victim following the incident. We would appeal to these people and anyone else who saw whathappened to come forward.”
