Man Wanted Over Shopworker Attack

Police are releasing a CCTV image of a man wanted over an attack on a Portsmouth shopkeeper.

The man went into Pickwick Newsagents on Sultan Road, Buckland, with his dog just before 7am on Friday, October 22.

He walked round the aisles and approached the shop counter where he began to verbally abuse the 24-year-old shop assistant.

While this happened the dog fouled on the floor. The man then went behind the counter and assaulted the member of staff by head-butting and kicking him.

The offender is described as:

White man
5ft 11ins tall
Muscular build
Wearing brown jacket and jeans

PC Steve Wroe from Portsmouth’s Targeted Patrol team said:  “We’re releasing the CCTV still in the hope someone recognises this man or his dog and can identify him to us.

“This was a nasty, violent assault and the shop worker is lucky not have suffered serious injuries.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact PC Wroe at Cosham police station on 101 or 0845 045 45 45 from outside Hampshire and the Isle of Wight. You can also call the anonymous Crimestoppers charity on 0800 555 111.
